Feto Records: The Beginning

The idea to start a record label had been floating around in Shane (Napalm Death/ Brujeria/ Lock up/ Venomous Concept) Embury’s head for many years, but it wasn’t until his close friend Mick Kenney (Anaal Nathrakh/ Exploder/ Mistress/ Frost) had had similar thoughts himself that they began talking about joining forces and doing a label together. With their combined years of experience and their frustration with label restrictions, they discussed the possibilities of a label where there would be no boundaries, where they could release what they wanted. A label that would not infringe on the artists freedom or vision, but on the contrary- would inspire it!

Thus FETO Records was born!

The first few releases on FETO were albums from the pairs many musical projects: Lock Up, Exploder, Mistress, Professor Fate etc, and of course there are more in the pipeline. One of FETO’s aims is to encourage musical collaborations as we believe this can inspire great and adventurous recordings.

The name of the Label FETO derives itself from the title of the second Napalm Death album “From Enslavement to Obliteration”. When the album rocketed into the NME Indie album charts at No1 in 1988, it settled itself above bands such as Sonic Youth and Big Black. Such was the musical diversity of extremity at that time, it is a reminder to us all that rules are meant to be broken!

Over the coming months as the label continues to grow and expand, you can expect releases from many genres of extreme music. Be it grindcore/ death metal/ heavy metal/ punk/ hardcore/ industrial or experimental, FETO aims to become a guiding light in the darkness of ignorance..

FETO Records
Challenge Everything!

Did people from Napalm Death and Anaal Nathrakh really set up the label; do they actually run it themselves?
Yes, you can read the story of how FETO Records came about in the biography page, but yes, Shane Embury (Napalm Death, Brujeria) and Mick Kenney (Anaal Nathrakh, Mistress) set up and run this label. They really do run it themselves, with assistance from Madoka who is a whiz at licensing, Becky who takes care of all the UK press and Charles who covers Europe.

How can my band get on FETO Records?
We are always looking for new and innovative bands to sign to FETO and welcome the submission of demos. The address can be found on the ABOUT FETO page under CONTACT.  Unfortunately we can’t give feedback to every band we listen to, but if we like the sound of what you’re doing, we will get in contact- so don’t forget to include an email address or other means of getting hold of you.

Do you really listen to all the demos you get sent?
Yes, but it can take some time to get through them all. Also please bear in mind that Mick and Shane are away on tour/recording/doing numerous other things fairly often so won’t always have the opportunity to pick up post from the PO Box. You can also contact us through myspace if you want us to listen to your tracks on there.

How can I get Anaal Nathrakh to play at my gig/venue?
Email us and tell us what you have in mind. All of our bands have their own contact details, but if in doubt feel free to go through us and we will pass the message on.  This is by no means a guarantee that they will want to play your show, but it can’t hurt to ask.

I want to bulk buy some of your CD’s for my distro/record shop, how do I go about this?
The man with all the info you need is John at Cargo Records. We are always looking for new distributors and stockists all over the world, so don’t be shy of asking. His details are in the contact section too.

I want to interview one of your bands for my magazine/zine/school assignment- is that OK?
Either contact the band directly or email Becky who will pass your request on.

I heard you were putting out a Napalm Death vinyl, is this true?
Yes, it’s a split live release with Nasum. To be kept up to date on all the news about this release and all our others please sign up to our mailing list at the top of this page. We announce all our news on there first- so be among the first to know what’s going on.

I have a question you haven’t answered here and a suggestion for the site, how can I let you know?
Email Becky with FAQ or SUGGESTION in the subject box, and she will get back to you ASAP. We welcome your questions and suggestions, so let us know if there is something obvious we are missing that you want to know.
